The Royal Alcazares lie not far from the Cathedral, and consist of a group of royal palaces which acted as fortress-palace. Here generations of monarchs have had their residence. The numerous rooms, halls and courtyards offer a great variety of styles and decorations, ranging from Arab to mudejar art (a peculiar art style combining shapes and themes of Islamic art with typical European architectural models).
From the palace one can access the lovely gardens, hosting a luxurious vegetation of palm-trees and orange trees placed on terraces. The gardens represent one of the finest examples of Andalusian art, with lakes and wonderful fountains creating unusual water games.
