The Cathedral of Seville

The fascinating and majestic Cathedral is the biggest of Spain, and the third biggest in the world after St. Peter in Rome and St. Paul in London. The prevailing gothic stile creates quite a contrast with the Moorish stile of the bell-tower, called Giralda. The Cathedral was built between 1420 and 1507, on the site where the old mosque stood when the Seville was under the Arab influence. The bell-tower is what remains of the old minaret, whereas the Courtyard of orange trees was converted into a cloister. Inside the Cathedral lies a famous sculptural group, a symbolic sepulchre of Christopher Columbus.
